The Old Sugar Mil

The Old Sugar Mil here in the Sacramento Delta. It is now a winery and host some of the best events in the area. This old sugar beet mill is in the process of being refurbished into a wine tasting area for small, boutique wineries. It currently houses 5 tasting rooms and a small retail shop. The day we visited, there was a small catering company selling some lunch type items. The future plans are to add 5-6 more wineries, a micro-brewery, a bistro and art galleries. The Sacramento delta wine area specializes in Petite Sirah (red) and Chenin Blanc (white).

Island Cattle

There are plenty of Cattle ranches her in the Delta. Most of these are under 500 acre operations. With the year round water and fertile soil of the Delta region the grazing here is year round. The gains are phenomenon because the soil is so rich.

Fish on!!! Strip Bass Fishing

Now you can't talk about the Delta without talking about abundant fishing holes and variety of species. Here you see John with a 35 pound strip bass off the Sacramento River.

Fog & Sunsets in the Delta

You can't talk about the Sacramento Delta without talking about the Grand Island Mansion. This is a destination place to have weddings on the river. There is no other place like this on the river.

So why do they call it Grand Island?

People often ask why do they call the Sacramento Delta towns islands. For example Grand Island, Sherman Island, etc. Well it is because these bodies of waters is surrounded by water on all four sides. A few island access requires being ferry across the river. These ferry station are maned 24 hours a day.
